Swansea 0-1 Stoke: Bojan penalty earns Potters victory

The home side came close to an equaliser midway through the second-half as Jonjo Shelvey struck the post, but they were unable find a leveller as Stoke held on for their first win at Swansea since 1993. The Potters travelled to south Wales in good form, having beaten Aston Villa and Bournemouth prior to the international break and made a commanding start with Bojan hitting the net.magistaobrapascher

Bojan's goal proved decisive at the Liberty Stadium Bojan's goal proved decisive at the Liberty Stadium The Spanish forward produced a superb mazy run and held off the challenge of Federico Fernandez before being brought down by Williams inside the 18-yard box. Bojan picked himself up and made no mistake from the spot, curling his effort into the top corner. Stoke continued to impress, but were lucky not to concede shortly after opening the scoring following a mistake from goalkeeper Jack Butland. The England international, under no pressure, miskicked his clearance into the path of Andre Ayew, but produced a last-ditch tackle to deny the Swansea forward getting a shot on goal. Jack Butland made a last-ditch tackle on Andre Ayew Jack Butland made a last-ditch tackle on Andre Ayew Mark Hughes' side quickly recovered from Butland's lapse and remained firmly in control of proceedings, with Johnson firing just wide of the post after being put through by Xherdan Shaqiri prior to the half-time interval. Stoke remained on the front foot following the break and were denied a second goal when Marko Arnautovic was flagged offside after he slotted past Lukasz Fabianski following good work on the left from Erik Pieters. Swansea rallied immediately and went close to claiming an equaliser through Shelvey. The England midfielder, collecting the ball inside the 18-yard box, fizzed his powerful low shot past Butland, but it cannoned back off the post.

Ollie's predictions: Brighton and Reading to win again

Sky Sports pundit Ian Holloway predicts the outcome of the big Football League midweek fixtures..... Shout it from the rooftops, I'm a man in-form. From my last 20 predictions I've got 13 results correct, including seven out of 10 over the weekend. Dynamo KievvChelsea Diego Costa to Score and Chelsea to Win in 90 Mins4/1 ArsenalvBayern M Robert Lewandowski to Score and Bayern Munich to Win in 90 Mins5/2 Bet nowBet £5 get £20 free However, I'm only a heartbeat away from getting every one of these wrong, but that's life! The managerial merry-go-round is spinning at a ridiculously ferocious rate and the goings on at Leeds United in the last 24 hours only reiterates my view that nothing in football surprises me anymore. This decision to sack Uwe Rosler just sums up football in the modern era. Harsh is not a strong enough word. He's only had 12 games! Good luck to Steve Evans, who starts his tenure against Fulham as part of a really intriguing set of midweek fixtures. I think he's going to need it. He better do well in the first 10 games. Even if he does well in first 10, then he'd better watch out for the next 10! redhotradio.co.uk

Brighton v Bristol City, Tuesday 7:45pm This game is one of many that have caused me problems. I've got a gut feeling there will be plenty of surprises this week but having watched both clubs very closely, I think Brighton and their winning mentality might just be too much for City. Highlights from Elland Road as Brighton scored a late winner to beat hosts Leeds Highlights from Elland Road as Brighton scored a late winner to beat hosts Leeds If City play with the back five then I can see Brighton getting behind the wing backs. Steve Cotterill can't change it as they are brilliant playing that way but Brighton are going to take some stopping. One team will dent them along the way as no team can go unbeaten through a Championship season, but not City. OLLIE PREDICTS: 2-1 (Sky Bet odds 15/2) Cardiff v Middlesbrough, Tuesday 7:45pm This will be really, really close and the draw looks the smart play. Some may have been shocked at Boro being held by Fulham at the weekend and even though I went for them, I wasn't. The Championship is the toughest league in the world. There's no point moping around, they've got to get going again. That's the great thing about this league.

Gossip: Aubameyang, Ayew, Simon, Wanyama

Klopp wants Aubameyang, Ayew to Anfield, Spurs want Simon, Wanyama to force move KLOPP TO TEMPT AUBAMEYANG… The Sunday Mirror went for the pokey suggestion that Liverpool could tempt Robert Lewandowski, but by Monday that already seems to have been lost on the wind. Instead, The Sun have changed tact to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Borussia Dortmund striker. It’s logical, at least. Klopp signed Aubameyang from St Etienne in 2013, seeing the striker score 42 goals in 94 matches before Klopp left. He’s since started scoring goals for fun, registering 14 in 13 games this season. With the greatest of respect to Klopp, surely he must be thinking about Liverpool’s needs elsewhere on the pitch? Liverpool already have Christian Benteke, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino. Plus Mario Balotelli is going to come back from his loan spell and enjoy the greatest redemption in football history.

OR IS IT AYEW TO LIVERPOOL? Speaking of non-strikers, ESPN are reporting that Swansea’s Andre Ayew is one of Klopp’s first transfer targets. They report that he twice tried to bring him to Dortmund when in charge there. End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

Ayew has started the Premier League season in quite wonderful fashion after moving to Swansea from Marseille, scoring four goals in eight appearances from the right wing and giving left-back after left-back twisted blood. Ayew was named Premier League Player of the Month for August and is already attracting interest from more glamorous clubs. The valid question would be why they didn’t sign him when he was available on a free just a few months ago. SPURS WANT SIMON (NOT GARFUNKEL) To the Daily Mail now, and their claim that Tottenham are interested in Gent winger Moses Simon. Last week we were told that Spurs wanted Gent striker Laurent Depoitre, so it’s unclear whether now want either, neither or both. Liverpool and Spurs were apparently both interested in signing Simon as a teenager, and are now tracking him again. He’s 20, he scored seven league goals last season and he moved from Trencin in Slovakia in January 2015.

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne targets improvement despite great start

Kevin De Bruyne has made a promising beginning to his Manchester City career Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne says he is fully focused on improving his performances despite making a flying start to life at the club. The 24-year-old, currently away on international duty with Belgium, has enjoyed a superb beginning to life back in the Premier League following his club-record £54.5m move from Wolfsburg. De Bruyne, who spent an unsuccessful two-year spell with Chelsea between 2012 and 2014, has scored four goals in his first five matches for City, helping them to reach the Premier League summit after eight matches.I am on a good run at the moment and obviously I want to try to keep on scoring, but there will come a time when I will not score that often and that's not a problem for me as long as I put in the good performances, it is fine," he told Sky Sports News HQ. De Bruyne is likely to feature for Marc Wilmots' side in their final European Qualifier against Israel on Monday night as they aim to claim top spot in Group B ahead of Wales, who also secured qualification at the weekend. De Bruyne netted on his home debut in the 2-1 defeat to West Ham in September De Bruyne netted on his home debut in the 2-1 defeat to West Ham in September As well as featuring prominently for club and country, De Bruyne has been attempting to settle into life in Manchester. Despite the hectic start to the new season, De Bruyne says he is happy and feels his performances will improve even further once off the field matters have been sorted. "I am happy, my family is happy and that is the most important thing for me. In the end, there are a lot of things to do and I need to do. In the next month, when everything is settled and done, I will get more rest and maybe produce some better performances," he added. "Obviously it has been very busy, living at the hotel, sorting everything out for the house and all the other stuff that you need to do. That's the time you cannot take to have some rest, but obviously I am doing ok so it is fine." Following Monday's match with Israel, De Bruyne will return to Manchester and team-up once again with Manuel Pellegrini's side ahead of Saturday's match with Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium. De Bruyne feels City can deal with the absence of forward Sergio Aguero (L) De Bruyne feels City can deal with the absence of forward Sergio Aguero (L) The clash with the Cherries kicks off a busy week for City, with a Champions League home match with Sevilla and the Manchester derby against Manchester United at OId Trafford set to follow. City will be without striker Sergio Aguero, who suffered a grade two tear to his hamstring away on international duty with Argentina. Aguero scored five times in his last match for City - a 6-1 thrashing of Newcastle - but is facing up to eight weeks on the sidelines after being carried off on a stretcher during the 2-0 defeat to Ecuador. De Bruyne, however, is hopeful City can deal with the loss of Aguero. He said: "He is one of the best strikers in the world and was obviously creating a lot of chances, scored five in the last game and now we are without him. We will try to put in good performances without him and he'll be happy when he gets back." Phil Jagielka hails England squad's strength in depth

Liverpool face 'massive' games with Villa and Everton after Norwich setback, says Phil Thompson

Liverpool's failure to beat Norwich in the Premier League on Sunday has only increased the pressure on the Reds, according to the club's former captain Phil Thompson. Brendan Rodgers' side could only manage a 1-1 draw with the newly promoted Canaries at Anfield, meaning they have now gone five matches in all competitions without a win. Thommo predicts... Find out what Phil Thompson is predicting for Liverpool v Carlisle in his Sky Bet tips here. However, while Thompson admits his old team were unlucky not to take all three points against Norwich, he also feels that setback has only made Saturday's league clash at home to struggling Aston Villa even more important. "Liverpool were very unfortunate and are obviously going through a difficult time right now," he said. "It was one of those games and while it was a good performance, you feel like they need two goals to really build any confidence and settle the nerves, which are running through the team and the fans right now.

Martin Tyler's stats and facts: Juan Mata's 45-pass goal

Martin's starting stats Ronald Koeman and Louis van Gaal have met each other five times now (PSV v AZ and Southampton v Manchester United) and Van Gaal has won three with Koeman winning the other two. However, as with Super Sunday, the away manager has won all five meetings. I was in the commentary box to see Manchester United's ninth win in 11 visits to St Mary's, but it didn't include a goal from Wayne Rooney. He has gone 11 matches in the Premier League without a goal - the longest streak of his entire career. He has scored five in 12 games against Southampton. The last time Southampton won at home against Manchester United was 2003 with a goal from James Beattie. In total, Southampton have lost 23 of 33 Premier League meetings, conceding 73 goals. Graziano Pelle, who played for AZ under both Van Gaal and Koeman, scored two goals. David de Gea had conceded exactly one goal in each of the last five games against Southampton. He conceded two this time, but was still the hero. In front of him, the same back four had started all eight previous games this season - but Luke Shaw's injury ended that run. A team has scored three in each of Southampton's home games so far - Everton, Southampton themselves (against Norwich) and now Manchester United.

Montpellier 2-3 Monaco: Fabinho's late spot-kick helps seals visitors' comeback

Fabinho scored a controversial penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Monaco came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Ligue 1 basement boys Montpellier. The Brazilian defender sent goalkeeper Jonathan Ligali the wrong way from the spot to cap a second-half fightback and leave the hosts still looking for their first win of the season. Montpellier, with just a solitary point to their name, looked to be heading for three points when they went into half-time two goals up thanks to Daniel Congre's effort and Guido Carrillo's own goal.

Rangers v St Johnstone: Team news for Tuesday's League Cup tie

St Johnstone striker Steven MacLean will return to the squad after missing the 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock at the weekend. MacLean, who has scored six goals in his last four matches, was not risked on the artificial pitch at Rugby Park due to concerns over his knee. On-loan Celtic full-back Darnell Fisher is the only doubt and will undergo a late test on a toe injury picked up on Saturday. Rangers manager Mark Warburton has dismissed suggestions that the match is a significant marker of their progress. Mark Warburton has played down the significance of the match "Everyone says it's a barometer. No, it's not. It's the next game," said Warburton. "All the papers are saying it's huge test for us because they are Premiership. We had a test against St Mirren, against Hibs, going to Alloa on their surface was a test, Queen of the South on a different surface was a test and Dumbarton was a test because of the one stand. "We have shown we can deal with challenges. This is the next challenge. There will be a number of challenges this season. Going to Dumbarton in January will be a challenge. We have to deal with all these challenges

Arsenal appear no closer to Premier League glory under Arsene Wenger

After a summer of limited transfer activity, Arsenal’s early season form – including back-to-back defeats – has highlighted predictable problems. Frustration is growing and the pressure is on Arsene Wenger again, writes Adam Bate… Arsenal against Chelsea. The details change but the outcome remains the same. The Gunners have failed to score a Premier League goal against Chelsea since Jose Mourinho returned and haven't beaten the Blues in seven. Arsene Wenger's side didn't come close to doing so at the weekend and while being reduced to nine men is a compelling excuse, one wonders how long the injustice of Diego Costa's fortune will sustain supporters.

Garth Crooks's team of the week: Martial, De Gea, Ivanovic, Vardy

Plenty of goals, plenty of red cards and plenty of controversy. Another normal weekend in the Premier League then. Leaders Manchester City lost their 100% winning record in a shock home defeat by third-placed West Ham, a result which allowed Manchester United to move within two points of their neighbours following a nervy win at Southampton. Defending champions Chelsea avoided a third straight defeat as nine-man Arsenal lost their discipline and the match, while comeback kings Leicester battled back to salvage a 2-2 draw at Stoke and stay in the top four. At the other end of the top-flight, it was a bad weekend for the north-east teams. Both Newcastle and Sunderland were beaten to stay rooted at the foot of the table, with Southampton, Aston Villa and Stoke also in the bottom five. But who were the standout performers? Here's my selection - do you agree? Goalkeeper - David De Gea (Manchester United End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

Jose Mourinho says John Terry remains a rock of Chelsea's squad

Crystal Palace will keep on attacking, says Alan Pardew

The bottom line is I want this team to always think about scoring goals. If you are of that mindset then you can't switch to really focusing on a clean sheet. "If we'd lost three games on the trot then maybe we'd start focusing on a clean sheet and start building from there, but we have got good momentum and a good feeling. Our players are smiley and happy and we will go out and try to take the game to Spurs." Pardew hoping to profit Alan Pardew is hoping Palace can take advantage of Tottenham's Europa League exertions Leicester, another team making an encouraging start to the season, have also yet to manage a shut-out, prompting manager Claudio Ranieri to offer his players a pizza for a clean sheet.

Ross County continue impressive start to Scottish Premiership season

Hamilton are now just one point and one place below Ross in fifth after they defeated Motherwell 1-0 in the Lanarkshire derby at New Douglas Park. Dougie Imrie got the better of Joe Chalmers to head an Antons Kurakins cross past Motherwell goalkeeper Connor Ripley and into the back of the net with 72 minutes on the clock. Lucas Tagliapietra thought he had given the Accies the lead in the first half but his effort was chalked off for an infringement, while Ali Crawford smashed a left-footed shot off the crossbar. Kilmarnock's Josh Magennis (right) celebrates his goal against St Johnstone Kilmarnock's Josh Magennis (right) celebrates his goal against St Johnstone Kilmarnock continued to improve as they picked up their second league win in as many matches, courtesy of a 2-1 win at home to St Johnstone. David Wotherspoon gave Saints the lead (17) as he slotted home from close-range after striker Graham Cummins' header had come back off the post. But Killie were back on level terms five minutes before the break as Josh Magennis nodded home a Greg Kiltie centre and they took the lead on the hour mark. Shaw flies back to Manchester to begin recovery

Luke Shaw has confirmed that he will fly back to Manchester United on Saturday to begin his rehabilitation following a double leg break. Shaw suffered a broken leg at the hands of PSV defender Hector Moreno on Tuesday in the Champions League following a tackle which former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane dubbed as “brilliant”. The England international is likely to face at least six months out due to the injury, and despite his lengthy lay-off, manager Louis van Gaal said he was ‘amazed’ by Shaw’s high spirits in midweek. Shaw has confirmed that he will now fly back to Manchester to “start my journey back onto the football pitch”, and thanked the Dutch hospital for looking after him.

Liverpool’s Sakho: I feel like a Red

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho says that he “fights every day” to get in Brendan Rodgers’ side after signing a new five-year contract. The French international is yet to start a Premier League game this season but claims he is still “very happy” at the club, despite consternation in his homeland about him committing to Liverpool ahead of Euro 2016. “I feel very good at Liverpool. The coach has a group of 25 players, almost all internationals, he must make choices and we must respect them,” he told L’Equipe. “But I am very happy in this club, in this city, with these supporters. Every morning I am happy to go to training. This club has a great project and I intend to join in. Today, with my extension, I think everyone is happy: The club, me, the fans.” Asked why he had fallen behind Dejan Lovren in the pecking order, Sakho said: “You must ask the coach. I’m ready. When he calls me, I do my job. Everything is going very well. It’s just that there is a fairly large squad…I feel like a Red and accept the decisions of my coach. He admitted he was worried about his international place, saying: “I work to achieve the collective goals of the club but also my individual goals. The Euros is one. I have to give everything to have the most possible game time with Liverpool. I fight every day

Serie A round-up: AC Milan sneak win over Palermo

Two goals from Carlos Bacca helped AC Milan recover from last weekend's derby defeat to Inter with a 3-2 Serie A victory over Palermo at San Siro. The Colombian, signed from Sevilla, flicked home an early opener before Oscar Hiljemark equalised with a header. Giacomo Bonaventura's free kick restored the Rossoneri lead before half-time, but Bacca was needed once again after Hiljemark converted his own brace midway through the second half.

Backing Coutinho to help Liverpool past Norwich

Chelsea v Arsenal Chelsea have not kept a clean sheet all season (including pre-season) and they look unrecognisable from the side that made all the running in the Premier League this time last year. Hilariously, Jose Mourinho has apparently banned his players from engaging in ‘banter’ following their dismal start, a start that has left them languishing at the wrong end of the table. Will prohibiting ‘bantz’ see an upturn in fortunes? Will forbidding Willian to whip an unsuspecting John Obi Mikel with a soggy towel in the showers after training see them across the line against Arsenal? My guess is not. Indeed I reckon Arsenal look a great shout at 29/20 to score twice in this match against a Blues rearguard who seemingly don’t know whether to stick or twist at present. Betting: Arsenal to score 2+ goals at 29/20 (Coral) Aston Villa v West Brom Speaking of dodgy defences, Villa have not kept a clean sheet since the opening day and their second-half collapse at Leicester was pretty horrific (unless you’d backed Leicester, obviously). They have shipped eight goals in their last three matches. Contrast that with the Baggies, who have kept three clean sheets. Big derby game this. The atmosphere will be white hot but my hunch is goals will be at a premium.

Why more British students are taking US soccer scholarships

By Owen Amos BBC News website Six years ago, Dom Dwyer's career was going nowhere. Released by Norwich City as a schoolboy, he entered semi-professional football, turning out for King's Lynn and Staines Town, who play in the Ryman Premier Division. It was there, in the foothills of the English game, that he looked west and decided to move to the United States. Dwyer signed up to a firm who - for a fee - help organise soccer scholarships at US colleges for young, talented British footballers. Getting a scholarship means the college pays some, or all, of the student's tuition fees and costs.Dwyer spent two years at Tyler Junior College in Texas, before moving to the University of South Florida. While there, he was signed by Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City. He has since scored more than 30 MLS goals, was named in the 2014 All Star team alongside Thierry Henry and, in 2015, is on a guaranteed salary of more than £300,000 a year. He is also married to Sydney Leroux, who was a member of the USA's World Cup-winning women's team earlier this year. "It's pretty amazing," says Dwyer. "I'm a little kid from England, and last year I was at the White House [after winning the 2013 MLS Cup]. "I just thought: 'What are they doing, letting me in here?'" Jumping on the bandwagon Dwyer is not the only British player who has gone from US college to the MLS. Matt Watson - who studied at the University of Maryland, after being released by Wolves as a youngster - plays for Chicago Fire. Otis Earle, son of former Wimbledon midfielder Robbie Earle, is at FC Dallas, via the University of California, Riverside. Preston-born Luke Mulholland, who studied in North Carolina, is at Real Salt Lake, while Andy Rose, once a Bristol City youth, went from the University of California in Los Angeles to Seattle Sounders. Few Britons will emulate their careers. But more and more are trying.

Ipswich Town's Ryan Fraser: Dogs, Corsas and the Coffee Club

By Phil Shepka BBC Sport What would a teenager who has moved nearly 600 miles away from his home in the far north of Scotland do to help him settle in? Buy a dog, obviously. That is exactly what Ryan Fraser did when he left hometown club Aberdeen for Eddie Howe's then-League One Bournemouth side in 2013. What has happened to the Cherries since then has been sensational - but Fraser was on the edges of their rise to the Premier League, only making six league starts last season. To aid his development, the 21-year-old winger moved back down to the Championship on a season-long loan to Ipswich, where he has just won the Football League Young Player of the Month award for August, even with his dog back on the south coast. "My dog, Maisie, just gave me something to do after training," he told BBC Sport. "I can come home, take her out and just be a normal person. "I haven't been able to bring her to Ipswich, which has maybe kind of helped me, in a way, to focus on my football. But I've got people down in Bournemouth looking after her, and she's fine." In Maisie's absence, the Scotland Under-21 international scored three goals in seven matches in August, somewhat justifying his move down a division. Ryan Fraser Fraser scored on his Ipswich debut against Brentford in August Flip back a few years, an even fresher-faced Fraser was impressing in the Scottish Premiership, but decided to make the move to Dorset - a decision made possibly too quickly for his parents. "I think I had one day down in Bournemouth," he explained. "I was supposed to come down and look at the training ground and stadium. I signed on that day and I wasn't allowed home. "So my mum and dad had to drive the 13 hours down in the Vauxhall Corsa to help me settle in. But all the lads at Bournemouth were good to me, made me feel right at home and it was quite easy for me to get down and work hard." To help him settle in the area, Cherries manager Eddie Howe took him out for lunch and dinner a few times, and he joined Bournemouth's very own 'Coffee Club', involving a few of his new team-mates. "A couple of us went to Costa every day after training, some of us went to Starbucks in little groups and sometimes you'd all come together and just speak about things happening away from football, like how your families are doing. "It's just nice to get away from football sometimes, just to speak

Premier League hat-tricks: Henry, Cantona and more #PLmoments

David Bentley became the first player to score a Premier League hat-trick against Manchester United as Blackburn won a 4-3 thriller at Ewood Park. Bentley's first two goals might not have been the most pleasing on the eye but the third was a superb shot rifled into the bottom right-hand corner. Mark Hughes post-match said: "I think we have got a bargain in David Bentley - a young lad with a great career in front of him."Dennis Bergkamp scored one of the most memorable hat-tricks in Premier League history at Filbert Street. Bergkamp broke the deadlock during the first half when he curled in a shot, before lofting the ball over the goalkeeper to give Arsenal a two-goal advantage. Leicester pegged Arsenal back to 2-2 but though the points looked set to be shared, Bergkamp had other ideas. In the 90th minute, he scored a magnificent third to settle proceedings. The Dutchman controlled David Platt's long ball into the area with his right foot, brought the ball inside and then produced a glorious finish past Kasey Keller.End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

Tottenham v Stoke preview: Lloris fit to start for Spurs

Narrow defeats on the opening day of the season for both Tottenham and Stoke make their Premier League clash at White Hart Lane all the more important on Saturday. Spurs lost 1-0 at Old Trafford and manager Mauricio Pochettino felt they were “unlucky”, while Stoke’s Mark Hughes claimed his side’s late home loss to Liverpool was also undeserved. Stoke added to their attacking strength this week by breaking their transfer record to sign Xherdan Shaqiri for £12m from Inter Milan and he could make his debut on Saturday.End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

The 3AM Gossip Liverpool high on Bacca and Llorente but lose Benteke interest, Chelsea want Dembele, Schweinsteiger to complete £7.5m Man United move, Arsenal to offer Wilshere new deal.

It has seemed like one of the inevitable moves of this summer's transfer window, but is Christian Benteke to Liverpool off? According to the Sunday Telegraph, who report that the Reds are 'cooling' on the Belgian due to his mammoth £32.5m release clause, it is. But that isn't all the Telegraph provide us on this lovely Sabbath. Not only will Liverpool relax on their bid to sign Benteke, but they have targeted two more players as a result. Juventus striker Fernando Llorente and Sevilla star Carlos Bacca. The link to Llorente was almost certain to materialise eventually, particularly after the Turin club announced that they had agreed a deal to sign Mario Mandzukic. The Spaniard will reportedly cost £14.3m. Bacca, on the other hand, is also coveted by Manchester United, and is valued at £21.4m. Bacca, 28, would likely be the more attractive proposition to Liverpool than 30-year-old Llorente, despite his higher price. The Colombian's agent has said "the market is unpredictable", which is hardly a 'he's not leaving'. MOURINHO MULLS OVER MOUSA MOVE Well, this is a bit weird. The Sun on Sunday's random team and player generator has gone into overdrive this week, and it has thrown up a 'Mousa Dembele to Chelsea' rumour. According to our reliable friends, Jose Mourinho is searching for reinforcements with John Obi Mikel potentially leaving this summer. The Nigerian is a target for Fenerbahce, and Mourinho is wary of replacing a man who made a huge 13 starts last season. The boss is a keen admirer of Dembele, who is hardly similar to Mikel in the first place. Not only that, but he'd cost a reported £12m. Still, the Belgian made 18 starts in all competitions last season, so he'd certainly be an upgrade. ARSENAL TO JACK UP WILSHERE WAGE After news of Manchester City making a £40m move for Jack Wilshere emerged yesterday, it appears that Arsenal are willing to fight for their midfielder. The Sunday Mirror claim the club are preparing to hand the 23-year-old a five-year-deal on £100,000-a-week, something they claim would 'double his money'. We're pretty sure that doesn't quite add up, but still. SCHWEINI TO UNITED MOVES CLOSER 'Louis van Gaal has told negotiator Ed Woodward to sort a reunion' with Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to the Sunday Mirror. It evokes a lovely image of Woodward absolutely bricking himself while Van Gaal drunkenly shouts at him. Moving on quickly, the Mirror, who have picked up the story from the Sunday People, claim that Man United are willing to fork out £7.5m to prise the 30-year-old midfielder away from Bayern Munich. It would be an excellent price for a player who would add experience and nous to that midfield. It would also be a surprise if Pep Guardiola let him go so easily. BEST OF THE REST Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is ready to wreck Newcastle's move for QPR striker Charlie Austin...Newcastle are ready to hijack Aston Villa's bid to land Tottenham winger Andros Townsend...Carl Jenkinson is poised to get a new Arsenal contract - before being loaned out...Tottenham are racing to complete a £12million deal for Lyon striker Clinton

The Winter's On Its Way Gossip

UNITED WANT RAMOS The papers are full of stories of Spain international Sergio Ramos heading to Manchester United. It was a link which emerged in the Sunday papers last weekend and it's a story the tabloids and broadsheets are going big on again with the general gist that United are using Ramos, 29, as leverage in Real Madrid's pursuit of David De Dea. The Independent says Real want £46.5m for Ramos and would 'probably expect a fee as well as De Gea in exchange'. Louis van Gaal is on the look-out for a central defender and Ramos, who is apparently upset at Real allowing his contract to meander into its final two years, would bring a wealth of experience. Whether the central defender is keen on a move to the Premier League or whether he's trying to get himself a bumper new deal at the Bernabeu is the burning question. We suspect the latter. TOON TO RESCUE COLE FROM 'HELL' The Daily Star says Newcastle could make a move for Ashley Cole and rescue the full-back from his Roma 'hell'. The 34-year-old played 16 times for the Rome club last season and could be facing even less game time next season with Vasilis Torosidis and Jose Holebas in front of him in the pecking order The red top says Cole's had a 'torrid time' with the Serie A side and Steve McClaren could make a move for the former England man, who has one year left on his contract. CLEAR THE DECKS Tottenham are planning a huge summer clear-out with up to ten players possibly leaving, according to the Daily Telegraph. Aaron Lennon, Paulinho, Younes Kaboul, Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli are all for sale at White Hart Lane with boss Mauricio Pochettino seemingly planning a revolution. Spurs have rejected offers for Roberto Soldado and Vlad Chiriches but will sell both of them if their valuations are met, while Lewis Holtby and Emmanuel Adebayor are also surplus to requirements. The tea lady is safe though... AND THE REST Liverpool are considering Colombia international Carlos Bacca and Venezuelan Salomon Rondon as alternatives to Christian Benteke...Ronald Koeman is prepared to smash Southampton's transfer record to capture top target Toby Alderweireld...Bournemouth and Watford are battling to sign former Manchester City midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim...Crystal Palace's board are ready to put the block on Alan Pardew's move for Charlie Austin after QPR put a £15m price tag on the striker...Arsenal will head off Manchester City's interest in Jack Wilshere by offering him a new five-year, double-your-money contract...Newcastle United target Ladislav Krejci wants a move to Tyneside.

In Defence Of Wayne Rooney

Is it REALLY that hard to see that actually he has done pretty bloody good?? I never said he was the greatest player ever if you take away Ronaldo and Messi. I said he has few equals. If you then throw into the equation that I cant remember many of the other players playing in midfield for long stretches of time or that he hasn't played in a substantially worse league (Holland/France/Italy) I am pretty sure my point stands. The 2004 hype around him was too big at the time but if you had asked Wayne whether in 10 yrs he would be in the position he is in now, I am almost certain he would be more than happy with what he has achieved Regards, Tyler Coate Rooney Anything But Inconsistent I cant believe this is still debated. Many people let their personal views on him affect their judgement of him and his career, united fans included. If I offered you an 18 year old striker now who could bring you a goal every other game for a decade, and nearly as many assists, who would score in every round of the champions league, who would end his career as his nations and clubs all time top goal scorers, probably second all time in the prem, who currently sits 4th in assists since records began, has every club trophy except fa cup and so on. You would think this was roy of the rovers stuff, but cos he looks like a potato and can get rather aggressive on the pitch, as he is a sore loser like most winners (Mourinho, Ferguson for example), he is disparaged. If he had played for your team, you would love him for his passion, his hard work, his ability at times to take over a game on his own (Yes this has happened countless times when he is on his top form) and his desire to win.

Football365's Top Ten Summer Needs

Everton - Satisfactory reserve options There's a good deal to like about Everton's first-choice XI. Leighton Baines, James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman, John Stones, Phil Jagielka, Muhamed Besic and Romelu Lukaku may all merit starts at neighbours Liverpool, for example. What lets Roberto Martinez down is the bare cupboard left once the finest ingredients are removed. Tony Hibbert as the reserve right-back, Aroune Kone as the back-up for Lukaku and Antonin Alcaraz (now gone) in central defence - these are all things that require significant upgrade if Everton are going to improve. Last summer the majority of the transfer budget was spent on one striker, but this year Everton must spread their cash more thinly across the squad. The crucial trick is to do so without simply replacing mediocrity with mediocrity. Apropros of exactly that, Tom Cleverley has already arrived. 9) Newcastle United - Wingers Sammy Ameobi? No. Yoan Gouffran? No. Gabriel Obertan? No. Jonas Gutierrez? Gone. Sylvain Marveaux? No. Romain Amalfitano? No. Rolando Aarons? Yes, but still very raw. Any Newcastle supporter will give you a list as long as their arm for how Steve McClaren (and Mike Ashley) must improve this stagnant squad, but it is in wide areas that they are most lacking. Papis Cisse's chance conversion was remarkable last season, but both him and Ayoze Perez were forced to feed on relative scraps. As a rule, Newcastle's crossing and set-piece taking is at primary school level. With Siem de Jong, Remy Cabella and Moussa Sissoko all capable of creating behind the striker, signing a wide player (or two) would do much to lift the mood on Tyneside. Newcastle fans have a long history of adoring a winger (think Ruel Fox, David Ginola, Laurent Robert, Nobby Solano and Hatem Ben Arfa). All they want is someone to make them dream. 8) Promoted clubs - Defenders It is the one constant of the Premier League era. In every single season, the team that has conceded the most goals has been relegated. Sunderland and Aston Villa survived in May despite only scoring 31 times all season, compared to QPR's 42 (a total higher than six other teams). Letting them in at a rate of almost two a game is the perfect recipe for relegation.\

Liverpool facing toughest season in many years, says Jamie Redknapp

Liverpool are facing their "toughest season in many, many years" in 2015/16, says Jamie Redknapp. The Reds ended a disappointing 2014/15 campaign with a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Stoke and with Raheem Sterling's future uncertain, Daniel Sturridge's injury problems ongoing and skipper Steven Gerrard on his way to the MLS, Redknapp believes boss Brendan Rodgers has a major task on his hands. After challenging for the Premier League title last year, Liverpool ended this season in sixth, 25 points behind leaders Chelsea, meaning they miss out on Champions League football. There are so many players I feel aren't good enough to play for Liverpool and maybe their future isn't there, but how do you get them out of the door and then get the right players to come in? Jamie Redknapp With just 52 goals to their name - compared with 101 in 2014/15 - Redknapp says the club must spend big in the transfer window but can’t see any easy solutions for Rodgers and filling the void left by Luis Suarez remains a major issue. "It's going to be a difficult summer," he told Sky Sports' end-of-season review show. "Gerrard is leaving, you’re going to have the Raheem Sterling debacle, which is going to run and run and run, then what do you do with Mario Balotelli? Keep him or sell him?
