It has seemed like one of the inevitable moves of this summer's transfer window, but is Christian Benteke to Liverpool off? According to the Sunday Telegraph, who report that the Reds are 'cooling' on the Belgian due to his mammoth £32.5m release clause, it is.
But that isn't all the Telegraph provide us on this lovely Sabbath. Not only will Liverpool relax on their bid to sign Benteke, but they have targeted two more players as a result. Juventus striker Fernando Llorente and Sevilla star Carlos Bacca.
The link to Llorente was almost certain to materialise eventually, particularly after the Turin club announced that they had agreed a deal to sign Mario Mandzukic. The Spaniard will reportedly cost £14.3m. Bacca, on the other hand, is also coveted by Manchester United, and is valued at £21.4m.
Bacca, 28, would likely be the more attractive proposition to Liverpool than 30-year-old Llorente, despite his higher price. The Colombian's agent has said "the market is unpredictable", which is hardly a 'he's not leaving'.
MOURINHO MULLS OVER MOUSA MOVE
Well, this is a bit weird. The Sun on Sunday's random team and player generator has gone into overdrive this week, and it has thrown up a 'Mousa Dembele to Chelsea' rumour.
According to our reliable friends, Jose Mourinho is searching for reinforcements with John Obi Mikel potentially leaving this summer. The Nigerian is a target for Fenerbahce, and Mourinho is wary of replacing a man who made a huge 13 starts last season.
The boss is a keen admirer of Dembele, who is hardly similar to Mikel in the first place. Not only that, but he'd cost a reported £12m. Still, the Belgian made 18 starts in all competitions last season, so he'd certainly be an upgrade.
ARSENAL TO JACK UP WILSHERE WAGE
After news of Manchester City making a £40m move for Jack Wilshere emerged yesterday, it appears that Arsenal are willing to fight for their midfielder. The Sunday Mirror claim the club are preparing to hand the 23-year-old a five-year-deal on £100,000-a-week, something they claim would 'double his money'. We're pretty sure that doesn't quite add up, but still.
SCHWEINI TO UNITED MOVES CLOSER
'Louis van Gaal has told negotiator Ed Woodward to sort a reunion' with Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to the Sunday Mirror. It evokes a lovely image of Woodward absolutely bricking himself while Van Gaal drunkenly shouts at him.
Moving on quickly, the Mirror, who have picked up the story from the Sunday People, claim that Man United are willing to fork out £7.5m to prise the 30-year-old midfielder away from Bayern Munich. It would be an excellent price for a player who would add experience and nous to that midfield. It would also be a surprise if Pep Guardiola let him go so easily.

The Winter's On Its Way Gossip
UNITED WANT RAMOS
The papers are full of stories of Spain international Sergio Ramos heading to Manchester United.
It was a link which emerged in the Sunday papers last weekend and it's a story the tabloids and broadsheets are going big on again with the general gist that United are using Ramos, 29, as leverage in Real Madrid's pursuit of David De Dea.
The Independent says Real want £46.5m for Ramos and would 'probably expect a fee as well as De Gea in exchange'.
Louis van Gaal is on the look-out for a central defender and Ramos, who is apparently upset at Real allowing his contract to meander into its final two years, would bring a wealth of experience.
Whether the central defender is keen on a move to the Premier League or whether he's trying to get himself a bumper new deal at the Bernabeu is the burning question. We suspect the latter.
TOON TO RESCUE COLE FROM 'HELL'
The Daily Star says Newcastle could make a move for Ashley Cole and rescue the full-back from his Roma 'hell'.
The 34-year-old played 16 times for the Rome club last season and could be facing even less game time next season with Vasilis Torosidis and Jose Holebas in front of him in the pecking order
The red top says Cole's had a 'torrid time' with the Serie A side and Steve McClaren could make a move for the former England man, who has one year left on his contract.
CLEAR THE DECKS
Tottenham are planning a huge summer clear-out with up to ten players possibly leaving, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Aaron Lennon, Paulinho, Younes Kaboul, Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli are all for sale at White Hart Lane with boss Mauricio Pochettino seemingly planning a revolution.
Spurs have rejected offers for Roberto Soldado and Vlad Chiriches but will sell both of them if their valuations are met, while Lewis Holtby and Emmanuel Adebayor are also surplus to requirements.
The tea lady is safe though...
AND THE REST
Liverpool are considering Colombia international Carlos Bacca and Venezuelan Salomon Rondon as alternatives to Christian Benteke...Ronald Koeman is prepared to smash Southampton's transfer record to capture top target Toby Alderweireld...Bournemouth and Watford are battling to sign former Manchester City midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim...Crystal Palace's board are ready to put the block on Alan Pardew's move for Charlie Austin after QPR put a £15m price tag on the striker...Arsenal will head off Manchester City's interest in Jack Wilshere by offering him a new five-year, double-your-money contract...Newcastle United target Ladislav Krejci wants a move to Tyneside.

In Defence Of Wayne Rooney
Is it REALLY that hard to see that actually he has done pretty bloody good?? I never said he was the greatest player ever if you take away Ronaldo and Messi. I said he has few equals.
If you then throw into the equation that I cant remember many of the other players playing in midfield for long stretches of time or that he hasn't played in a substantially worse league (Holland/France/Italy) I am pretty sure my point stands.
The 2004 hype around him was too big at the time but if you had asked Wayne whether in 10 yrs he would be in the position he is in now, I am almost certain he would be more than happy with what he has achieved
Regards,
Tyler Coate
Rooney Anything But Inconsistent
I cant believe this is still debated. Many people let their personal views on him affect their judgement of him and his career, united fans included.
If I offered you an 18 year old striker now who could bring you a goal every other game for a decade, and nearly as many assists, who would score in every round of the champions league, who would end his career as his nations and clubs all time top goal scorers, probably second all time in the prem, who currently sits 4th in assists since records began, has every club trophy except fa cup and so on.
You would think this was roy of the rovers stuff, but cos he looks like a potato and can get rather aggressive on the pitch, as he is a sore loser like most winners (Mourinho, Ferguson for example), he is disparaged. If he had played for your team, you would love him for his passion, his hard work, his ability at times to take over a game on his own (Yes this has happened countless times when he is on his top form) and his desire to win.

Football365's Top Ten Summer Needs
Everton - Satisfactory reserve options
There's a good deal to like about Everton's first-choice XI. Leighton Baines, James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman, John Stones, Phil Jagielka, Muhamed Besic and Romelu Lukaku may all merit starts at neighbours Liverpool, for example. What lets Roberto Martinez down is the bare cupboard left once the finest ingredients are removed.
Tony Hibbert as the reserve right-back, Aroune Kone as the back-up for Lukaku and Antonin Alcaraz (now gone) in central defence - these are all things that require significant upgrade if Everton are going to improve. Last summer the majority of the transfer budget was spent on one striker, but this year Everton must spread their cash more thinly across the squad. The crucial trick is to do so without simply replacing mediocrity with mediocrity. Apropros of exactly that, Tom Cleverley has already arrived.
9) Newcastle United - Wingers
Sammy Ameobi? No. Yoan Gouffran? No. Gabriel Obertan? No. Jonas Gutierrez? Gone. Sylvain Marveaux? No. Romain Amalfitano? No. Rolando Aarons? Yes, but still very raw.
Any Newcastle supporter will give you a list as long as their arm for how Steve McClaren (and Mike Ashley) must improve this stagnant squad, but it is in wide areas that they are most lacking. Papis Cisse's chance conversion was remarkable last season, but both him and Ayoze Perez were forced to feed on relative scraps. As a rule, Newcastle's crossing and set-piece taking is at primary school level.
With Siem de Jong, Remy Cabella and Moussa Sissoko all capable of creating behind the striker, signing a wide player (or two) would do much to lift the mood on Tyneside. Newcastle fans have a long history of adoring a winger (think Ruel Fox, David Ginola, Laurent Robert, Nobby Solano and Hatem Ben Arfa). All they want is someone to make them dream.
8) Promoted clubs - Defenders
It is the one constant of the Premier League era. In every single season, the team that has conceded the most goals has been relegated. Sunderland and Aston Villa survived in May despite only scoring 31 times all season, compared to QPR's 42 (a total higher than six other teams). Letting them in at a rate of almost two a game is the perfect recipe for relegation.\

Liverpool facing toughest season in many years, says Jamie Redknapp
Liverpool are facing their "toughest season in many, many years" in 2015/16, says Jamie Redknapp.
The Reds ended a disappointing 2014/15 campaign with a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Stoke and with Raheem Sterling's future uncertain, Daniel Sturridge's injury problems ongoing and skipper Steven Gerrard on his way to the MLS, Redknapp believes boss Brendan Rodgers has a major task on his hands.
After challenging for the Premier League title last year, Liverpool ended this season in sixth, 25 points behind leaders Chelsea, meaning they miss out on Champions League football.
There are so many players I feel aren't good enough to play for Liverpool and maybe their future isn't there, but how do you get them out of the door and then get the right players to come in?
Jamie Redknapp
With just 52 goals to their name - compared with 101 in 2014/15 - Redknapp says the club must spend big in the transfer window but can’t see any easy solutions for Rodgers and filling the void left by Luis Suarez remains a major issue.
"It's going to be a difficult summer," he told Sky Sports' end-of-season review show.
"Gerrard is leaving, you’re going to have the Raheem Sterling debacle, which is going to run and run and run, then what do you do with Mario Balotelli? Keep him or sell him?

Niall Quinn sorry to see Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat leave
Neil McCann feels Stuart McCall should not be kept on as Rangers manager, following the club's failure to get promoted.
McCall has wants to remain in charge at Ibrox despite their play-off final defeat to Motherwell over two legs.
McCann, who played for Rangers between 1998 and 2003, says the club have to win the Scottish Championship next season and will have the financial firepower to do so.

Neil McCann says Bilel Mohsni should be punished for his disgusting behaviour against Motherwell
But he does not feel McCall is the man who should be given the responsibility to spend the Ibrox club's vast resources.
"Probably not," he told Sky Sports News HQ when asked if he felt McCall should be kept on. "If he had taken them up, I'd say he is the right man for the job but he had seven wins in his time in charge and that's not a sparkling stat.
"He'll admit to that and he tried his utmost but the results aren't good enough. He'll dearly love an opportunity to rebuild and they have fantastic resources.
"Some of the guys they've brought to the club are on big wages and it will be a very strong budget for that division. They have to absolutely guarantee winning the Championship with the money they can spend."

Quique Sanchez Flores perfect for Watford, says Guillem Balague
Sky Sports Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague is tipping Quique Sanchez Flores to be a success at Vicarage Road.
Watford have confirmed the appointment of the former Valencia and Benfica boss on a two-year contract and Balague believes him to be the perfect fit for the club as they prepare to return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.
Flores guided Atletico Madrid to the Europa League title in 2010 with a win over Fulham in the final. After several years coaching in the United Arab Emirates, the 50-year-old returned to Spain earlier this year to take charge of former club Getafe, before resigning after less than two months in charge.

Balague told Sky Sports News HQ: "He's a well-prepared, experienced coach who speaks good English and has been abroad already at Benfica and in the Middle East. He generally likes good football and maximises what he has got at his disposal.
"Unlike other coaches who maybe come to the Premier League unprepared, Sanchez Flores has been thinking about this for a long while. That's why when things didn't go well at Getafe (he left in February) he said 'Well, I'd better go and keep preparing myself for this opportunity' and now it has come it and he's already looking forward to it of course.
He speaks really well and he writes columns on football
Guillem Balague
"He's a well read man, he speaks really well and he writes columns on football. He's a great communicator. He showed when he was at Valencia what he is capable of as he took them to third in the league and to a Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea.
"His teams tend to be very balanced, he's a disciple of Rafa Benitez; whatever you have, you take the maximum from the squad.
"He knows exactly what Watford is about. The target of the club seems to be to develop players in such a way that they can sell them on and also survive in the Premier League.
"The head coach will work under that philosophy because there is no such thing as a manager in Spain. His main role will be to coach the team and he knows how to delegate."
Slavisa Jokanovic left the club last month having secured promotion to the top flight and Balague believes the Serbian may yet re-surface at another English club.
He said: "I think Jokanovic would like to stay in England. I think it became quite clear to him that Watford were looking at someone else. He would be happy to be involved at Championship level and try and do what he did with Watford with another club."

WWC: Gloom lifting for England women ahead of Mexico clash
It appears the England squad wanted to buck up their ideas after the defeat by France.
Ahead of the Mexico game in Moncton, a lot of personal grooming has been attended to. Mainly haircuts it seems as head coach Mark Sampson is the latest to literally get the short, back and sides treatment from a barbers that has rarely seen such a steady flow of traffic.
Lianne Sanderson appears to be the catalyst for the cuts, she of the blonde Mohican, advised many to go and see a man called ‘Karim’. It is at this point that I must confess that I took Liane’s advice that Karim could cut hair well.
Thinking about keeping myself neat and tidy, as one must when on assignment for SSNHQ, Karim said he’d cut out all my grey hair. What I didn’t realise is that he would take away most of the black hair I have as well!
Indeed, Sampson when answering a question of mine at his press conference before the Mexico game on Friday said before the assembled hacks “nice haircut by the way…” Ouch! Little did he suspect that just hours later having himself visited Moncton’s finest coiffeur, he would also be wondering where all his hair had gone.
After comparing notes and insisting we all asked for "just a little trim", we have all learned a lesson and need less gel on our heads for the time being.
Mark Sampson: It's been a testing few days for England's head coach
It’s all a bit of fun and that’s the point I’m trying to explain. It felt like there has been a mood change in the England camp.
Leading up to the France game and the days immediately after the defeat, there was a sense of anxiousness.
However, maybe some of that pent up nervous energy is dissipating and England are relaxing into the World Cup.
They know Mexico will provide decent opposition, but if England play well then they should win. They are a better side and Lionesses have better players.
The FIFA rankings don’t lie. England are sixth, Mexico are 25th. Without doubt, England cannot be complacent against the Mexicans, but if they can get early control in the game and more important than probably anything else score a goal or two the jitters of last week will be long forgotten.
Sampson acknowledged this, telling SSNHQ: “We know if we play to anywhere near our maximum we should beat Mexico. That’s no disrespect to them, but it’s confidence in our abilities.
"We have the game plan in place, the tactics worked out how to beat Mexico and we are now itching to get back out onto the pitch and play again.”

Bursaspor excluded from Europa League for one year
Bursaspor have been banned from next season's Europa League
Turkish club Bursaspor have been excluded from the Europa League next season after failing in their appeal against a one-year ban from UEFA for breaking the governing body's financial fair play rules.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport announced the decision on Thursday.
In 2012, Bursaspor were fined and given a one-year ban from UEFA club competition, deferred for a three-year probationary period, for breaching FFP.

The club played in the Europa League last season, but were found last December to have breached FFP again.
Bursaspor filed an appeal with CAS, pushing for the sanction to be set aside or made less severe, but sport's highest court rejected the appeal.

Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale can prove a point to his critics when Wales face Belgium
However, Southgate's side struggled to break down a Belarus outfit who only arrived in South Yorkshire 25 minutes before kick-off and were reduced to 10 men when Nikolai Zolotov was dismissed for a second yellow card.
Improvement will be required if they are to make an impact in the Czech Republic, with their opening match against Portugal next Thursday, but Southgate was content with their performance.
"We were confident we would get the goal because of the number of late goals we have scored," he said.
"The way that we play does wear teams down. We have to give them a lot of credit, the way they have defended and the way that their goalkeeper played, on another day you win the game comfortably.
"I think that was good for us, that was the perfect test, they had a bit of threat in the counter attack, it was difficult to break them down. I wouldn't fault our attitude or approach to the game, I thought it was spot on.
"We just have to keep working the ball and keep working the opening and have the belief that it will come and I think the squad believe that was the case."
England improved considerably when Tottenham striker Harry Kane was introduced from the bench on the hour.
"We stuck exactly to our plan apart from kicking off half an hour late," said Southgate. "We planned to make the substitutions at the times that we did and whatever the scoreline would have been we felt it right to keep to that.
"With the training we had we knew the load we wanted to give people.
"I was also pleased with the attitude and approach of all of the players that came on because, whether it 10 minutes or half an hour, those contributions in the Czech Republic are going to be crucial. There is a job to be done for every player."

Scotland's Shaun Maloney insists Ireland are expected to win on Saturday
Manuel Pellegrini's men at least finished the season strongly to secure the runners-up spot.
Pellegrini's position as manager appears to be safe but a significant injection of fresh faces to the squad is planned.
Manuel Pellegrini - safe for now
Manuel Pellegrini - safe for now
Speaking in an interview with City TV, Khaldoon said: "We have a great nucleus here and we want to preserve this nucleus – but at the same time we want to go the next level.
"We want a squad that is able and has the capability and quality to win the Premier League, compete and win the Champions League, compete and be able to go all the way in two cup competitions in England.
"I think you will see some changes. You will see some players who have served us well and maybe it is time for them to move to their next challenge, and you will see us in the market bringing high-quality individuals that fit within what we are aspiring to coming in this summer.
"I can assure you the squad will be stronger, the team will be more competitive. I am both confident and excited about what is coming next year.
"I want the disappointment of last year behind me, behind us all. We have all turned the page. The energy right now is positive, the energy towards getting back on track, winning that Premier League and getting a better performance in the Champions League. This is absolutely what is driving all of us right now."
Kevin de Bruyne - City have been in contact
Kevin de Bruyne - City have been in contact
City have been heavily linked with Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin de Bruyne while Juventus star Paul Pogba and Liverpool's Raheem Sterling are other reported targets.
De Bruyne told Sky Sports News HQ this week that City had made "informal contact" with his agent.
But Khaldoon insists that whilst there will be fresh faces, the spending will not be anything like the level that characterised the early years of the sheikh's ownership following his 2008 takeover.
He said: "We have gone from a club that was making promises of a future from a very low standpoint and therefore struggling to attract the quality of the players we would have aspired to. We were at a point having to pay big premiums in order to attract the type of players we wanted to attract.
"Today I think we are in a different position. We are a club players want to come and play for. We are an institution today.
"We can compete head to head with all the top clubs and players look at the track record of Manchester City over the last couple of years, look at the City Football Academy, the facilities we have, the infrastructure we have, look at the people we have in terms of management and coaches, look at the environment we have created here in Manchester. We have a very attractive proposition."
City have won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup since the takeover - the first trophy in 2011 ending a 35-year silverware drought - and overall Khaldoon is pleased with progress.
He said: "If you had said to me seven years ago that in seven years we will end the season second in the Premier League, we will be exiting the Champions League in the round of 16, losing to Barcelona, and that we would be extremely disappointed by that - I think this is a testament to how far we have gone.
"This is how far this organisation has gone. This is how far we have gone as a group as a whole, from fans to ownership to management to players. The expectations are now where they are and where they should be."

Steven Naismith insists Scotland are totally focused for the visit to Ireland
Everton forward Steven Naismith insists Scotland are totally focused for the visit to Ireland on Saturday.
Scotland are two points ahead of the Irish in Group D at the halfway stage of the European Qualifiers.
Naismith is aware that one poor result can change the outlook of the group, but believes Scotland can go to Dublin in a confident frame of mind.

“We know how quickly one performance can change the look of the group, but we know what we’ve done in this first half of the campaign we’ve worked so hard for and we believe going into every game we can take something from them,” Naismith said.
“This game will be no different. If you win your home games and put in good performances and take points from the away ones you’ll have a great chance, and that’s what we’ve got to concentrate on.”

Scotland earned a 1-0 victory over Ireland in November at Celtic Park, courtesy of a goal by former Celtic and Wigan striker Shaun Maloney, who is now playing for Chicago Fire in the MLS.
And the 28-year-old expects another tight encounter between the teams in front of the Sky Live cameras at the Aviva Stadium.
Naismith said: “The first game, we feel we deserved to win the game and we did. I’m sure we’ll watch over clips of Ireland and put a gameplan together again and go into the game believing we can win.
“We’ve got a real chance. Looking at the group and how tough it has been, in all the games we’ve looked dangerous, we’ve took the lead in a lot of them, and we’ve held our own at the back, so we’ll just do the same as we have been doing for the rest of the campaign and I’m sure we won’t be far away.

Raheem Sterling needs to use fans to his advantage, according to Paul Gascoigne
Paul Gascoigne said Raheem Sterling should try and enjoy his football and not worry about the abuse he gets from the fans
Paul Gascoigne has encouraged Raheem Sterling to use the fans to his advantage after the 20-year-old was booed in England's goalless draw with the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.
Sterling, who has been plagued by criticism since rejecting a £100,000-a-week contract with Liverpool, was booed by large sections of the Aviva Stadium crowd throughout the match and substituted after 66 minutes, with coach Roy Hodgson conceding after the match that his striker needed to "get a thicker skin" if he was to cope at an international level.
But Gascogine said Sterling's best course of action would be to channel those comments - and the crowd's energy - to his own purposes.

Gareth Bale will not be leaving the Bernabeu despite Real Madrid meeting, says Guillem Balague
Real Madrid are due to meet with Gareth Bale’s representatives on Wednesday, however the club have no intention of selling the player, according to Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
Bale, who only joined Real from Tottenham in 2013, has come in for heavy criticism from Madrid’s fans this season as the club prepare to finish the campaign without a trophy.
Recent reports have claimed Bale could be set for a return to the Premier League this summer, with both Manchester City and Manchester United heavily linked with the 25-year-old.

Bale is not going anywhere this summer and will still be at Real next season
Guillem Balague
But Balague insists Bale will still be at the Bernabeu next season and that the meeting with Real is simply to gauge how to get the best out of him in the future.
“Bale is unhappy with how his season has gone and where Real have been playing him,” says Balague. “But it is just a normal type of conversation to discuss what his role will be at the club next season and how Madrid can make him play better, with Bale wanting answers from them on those issues.
“However, Bale is not going anywhere this summer and will still be at Real next season, although both his position and role in the team have to change.
“And so while the headlines in Thursday’s papers may be about Bale leaving the club this summer after today’s meeting, Madrid definitely do not want him to go and nor does he want to leave either.”

Martin Tyler's Champions League stats: Omens for Barcelona and Juventus
Martin’s starting stats
I will answer your Champions League questions shortly, but I shall start with some reflections on Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley. Arsenal started the season with a 3-0 win at Wembley in the Community Shield and finished it with a 4-0 win. They completed a set of three wins over Aston Villa of 3-0, 5-0 and 4-0.
It was the biggest FA Cup win since Manchester United won 4-0 against Chelsea in 1994. The last time four different players scored for one team in an FA Cup final was when Bury had five different scorers in 1903 against Derby. Joe Leeming, George Ross, Charlie Fagar, Willie Wood and Jack Plant were the scorers.
The last time a team had exactly four scorers was when Sheffield United beat Derby 4-1 in 1899 with goals from Walter Bennett, Walter Beers, Jack Almond and Fred Priest.
Shay Given had a 17-year gap in between FA Cup final appearances, both against Arsenal, and in both games his team failed to score. Shay, of course, was involved in two FA Cup finals when he didn’t play. He was not used by Newcastle in 1999 against Manchester United and he was on the bench for the winning Manchester City team of 2011.
Arsenal broke the all-time record with a 12th FA Cup success and Arsene Wenger set a managerial record for modern times with six wins. George Ramsey was the managerial secretary for Aston Villa’s first six wins.
Peter McParland and Nigel Sims from Aston Villa’s 1957 team were at Wembley on Saturday – and despite the disappointment of defeat left Wembley knowing they are still in the last Aston Villa team to win the FA Cup – McPharland remains the last Villa player to score in an FA Cup final.

James Milner has agreed personal terms with Liverpool
Phil Thompson has hailed Liverpool’s deal to sign James Milner and has urged Brendan Rodgers to play him in central midfield.
Milner has agreed personal terms with Liverpool and will move to Anfield once his contract with Manchester City expires on July 1, subject to a medical.
Liverpool fended off competition from Arsenal for Milner’s signature, and club legend Thompson is looking forward to the 29-year-old slotting into Liverpool’s midfield.

Backing Neymar To Score In The Big One 'I'm throwing the kitchen sink at Barca and will literally be eating Dairylea Dunkers till payday if this goes awry,' said Degsy's email. He's backing Neymar to score...
The Champions League final takes place in Berlin on Saturday and will hopefully prove a welcome distraction away from what has been arguably the ugliest week in football's history. Sepp Blatter has finally fallen on his shield as top FIFA men from around the world try desperately to dig themselves out of the sh*t by singing like drunken canaries.
The latest bombshell is that FIFA paid the Irish FA millions of euros not to appeal Thierry Henry's blatant handball during France's 2009 World Cup play-off clash with the Republic of Ireland. How the f*ck does that work then? Ireland allegedly paid €5 million not to appeal the Henry handball. Who were they going to appeal to? The handball police? I digress.
Saturday's showpiece between Juventus and Barcelona should be a classic. Amazingly these two European behemoths have not played each other in over a decade. The layers make Barca warm favourites and I was surprised to see 5/1 quotes about Juventus winning in 90 minutes kicking about this week. After all this is the same side who knocked Real Madrid out in the semi's over two legs and who won Serie A this season with plenty in hand. That was their fourth domestic title in a row and any team with the likes of Paul Pogba, Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal in it deserve respect.
I could watch Pogba all day and Sir Alex Ferguson must wince every time he sees the enigmatic Frenchie, who is rapidly turning into the most complete midfield player in Europe. Tevez too has been brilliant this season. Let's have it right. Football in HD was obviously not invented with Tevez in mind but the Argentine with a face like a robber's dog has scored 29 times this season and will be up for this.
Talking about complete midfield players, Xavi, makes his final appearance for the Catalan giants this weekend before dashing off to fill his boots financially in Qatar. Will be be heading over to the Gulf state with a fourth Champions League winners medal? I reckon he will, because as good as Juve are defensively (and they are very, very good) I still see them as no match for the three amigos Messi, Neymar and Suarez. The Holy Trinity have already plundered a frankly outrageous 119 goals between them this term and all three forwards are operating at the very peak of their powers.
